Uncanny #5 : Beatrice Dillon

Simultaneously familiar and foreign: If something is uncanny, it is so mysterious, strange, or unfamiliar that it seems supernatural. If you hear strange music echoing through your attic, you might refer to it as positively uncanny

Uncanny #4 : Andrew Pekler

Simultaneously familiar and foreign: If something is uncanny, it is so mysterious, strange, or unfamiliar that it seems supernatural. If you hear strange music echoing through your attic, you might refer to it as positively uncanny

Siamo orgogliosi e trepidanti. Due doverose parole dell’autore:

“Parts of ‘Fourth World Problems’ are composed of ethnographic recordings paired with, or superimposed upon, electroacoustic music form the 1960s to the present. Other portions of this mix draw on western music influenced by, or evocative of non-western sonorities (fourth world, exotica). A few of my own unreleased tracks and synthetic ‘environments’ are scattered throughout.”

Uncanny #3 : Robert A. A. Lowe

Simultaneously familiar and foreign: If something is uncanny, it is so mysterious, strange, or unfamiliar that it seems supernatural. If you hear strange music echoing through your attic, you might refer to it as positively uncanny

Due parole dell’autore: “The basis of this mix is the Hypnagogic state, the waking dream. I feel that these works offer a natural trance. The selections here are from my collection which took some years to build up as I traveled for performances and would gather certain bits by region. For example the Josip Kalčič composition I’ve obtained is from Elektronski Studio Radio Beograda, where i toured last week to see their EMS Synthi 100 system. While there, I saw a portion of the massive archive of recordings done in the studio since 1972. The influence of sound in this realm is quite heavy on my artistic process. Field recordings and synthesis are in my wheelhouse. And, I think, if nothing more, the simple fact that the exploration of variations in the world is seemingly limitless brings great joy to me.”

Uncanny #2 : Giuseppe Ielasi

Simultaneously familiar and foreign: If something is uncanny, it is so mysterious, strange, or unfamiliar that it seems supernatural. If you hear strange music echoing through your attic, you might refer to it as positively uncanny

“The only things that I’ve been interested in collecting in the last ten years or so are LPs and CDs of ethnographic recordings. I never pretended to be, or become, an ethnomusicologist, so my position is that of a simple listener, fully seduced by the immense power that those ‘alien’ sounds have on me (and probably slightly disilluded with most of the contemporary music trends). This mix is a sequence of approximately fifty of my favourite recordings, mostly realised in the ’60s and ’70s, from all over the world (even though the slightly high percentage of recordings from the Solomon Islands might seem a bit weird). A very personal homage to Hugo Zemp, Simha Arom, Charles Duvelle, Artur Simon, Gerhard Kubik and Gilbert Rouget.”

Uncanny #1 : Riccarda Kato

Simultaneously familiar and foreign: If something is uncanny, it is so mysterious, strange, or unfamiliar that it seems supernatural. If you hear strange music echoing through your attic, you might refer to it as positively uncanny

A series of mixtapes selected by Giuseppe Cutrì, moving between tradition and avant-garde and trying to reveal the relationship of the musician with the transcendental and the unknown.
There will be passages into distant cultures: Middle East, Asia, Central America .. whose secular tradition is still evolving, until contamination our latest musical trends.
To embellish the series, we will invite some musicians playing in Standards to compile, in the form of musical flow, a personal selection of tracks on the same theme.

UNCANNY #1 mixtape is a tribute to the recently deceased Maâllem Guinia Mahmoud, a gentle oscillation between Moroccan Gnawa, folk and free jazz….have a good journey.

Ombre

A series of meetings with the musicians playing in Standards, but not only. An informal chat before or after the live to understand and discuss, maybe while having a cup of tea, the dynamics of the composition process: the development, collaborations and technology, then focussing on that area with the undefined borders that determines the end and the beginning of the process.

OMBRE 01

matinée

matinée will take place during the brightest moment of the day. The light will make the focusing easier and with it the limits, the borders will appear sharper. A closer thinking is requested if the aim is to walk along that path balancing between what is seen and what you want to imagine.
