URUK is a remarkable new musical endeavor by Massimo Pupillo (Zu, Triple Sun) and Thighpaulsandra (Coil). Their debut album will take you to dark and daring places — just as you’d expect of these joint forces. But even more, URUK is a challenging yet immersive listen of exceptional depth. You can expect some pitch dark ambient and deep drones that grab you by the throat. The richness of textures, and the atmosphere in which this piece of art bathes is of such an exceptional intensity, you will surely hit repeat time after time — not willing to leave the world these two extraordinary musicians and artists have conjured.

Thighpaulsandra

In addition to his collaborations in a diverse range of projects, multi-instrumentalist Thighpaulsandra (a.k.a. Tim Lewis) has also established himself as an experimental solo artist. After working with Julian Cope on such albums as 20 Mothers (1995) and Interpreter (1996), they eventually formed the ambient project Queen Elizabeth and released two records. In 1997, Thighpaulsandra replaced keyboardist Kate Radley in Spiritualized in time for a tour, including the renowned show at Royal Albert Hall. Despite several other members leaving, he stayed onboard for Spiritualized‘s Let It Come Down and Amazing Grace. In 1998, Thighpaulsandra also became a member of Coil, appearing on Astral Disaster and Musick to Play in the Dark Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. He began to release his solo experimental work in 2000, starting with the Some Head EP. I, Thighpaulsandra followed in January 2001, and later that year he issued the Michel Publicity Window EP. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, Rovi

Massimo Pupillo

Massimo Pupillo is a bass player, and composer, originally from Rome, Italy. He ’s mostly known as a founding member of Zu, with whom he released some 15 albums ( and lots of singles and compilations) on international labels like House Of Mythology, Ipecac, etc. In parallel with Zu he has kept a very open and curious ethos which brings him to collaborate often with musicians and artists coming from very different paths: from classical music with the incredible piano duo of Katia and Marielle Labeque, to contemporary music with electronic music pioneer Alvin Curran of Musica Elettronica Viva, from rock icons like Mike Patton to experimental music figures like FM Einheit of Einstuerzende Neubauten, David Tibet of Current 93, Stephen O’Malley of Sunn O))), Oren Ambarchi, etc., to freejazz heavyweights like Peter Brötzmann or Toshinori Kondo. He also wrote music for feature films and for the experimental theatre company Societas Raffaello Sanzio directed by Romeo Castellucci , and for contemporary dance company Dewey Dell. He released more than 60 albums and played more than 2000 concerts all over the planet. Notably in 2016 he has worked with Katia Labeque and David Chalmin, performing live with Bryce and Aaaron Dessner of The National and Bon Iver at the Paris Phiarmonie.
